Advertising and Critique, Ad Suggestions and Ideas.
Great advertising is created not just from great ads, but a grea product well marketed. Great advertising takes risks, because it dares to be different than competitors. If you say "I want to do ads just like XYZ company, you are doomed to failure!
Creating an obvious difference between yourself and others is key, making sure you provide that difference as a product or service benefit, is even more important. That takes a bit of research and understanding of what your competitors are doing and why you are different.
And don't fall into the trap of price. Price might get you short-term satisfaction, but if your price is too low, you might price yourself out of business. Most companies base their business of doing something different and making your customers life easier or better. If you provide that product or service well, your customers will come back for more. If you base your business on price alone, your customers will always be price shoppers and take the next lowest price next time around - and it might not be yours.
Headlines are critical because they encapsulate what you are selling in a few short words. If they are interesting, have a play on words, or just deliver a solid benefit, your customers will take notice. Just saying "Bob's Autos Are The Best Place To Buy." is not enough to motivate someone to action. "Bob's Autos Offer The Only 12 Month No Hassle Warranty in Town." gives the customers a reason to come see you.
Advertisng is also repetitive. Too many advertisers run one ad and expect their fortunes to change overnight. It doesn't work like that. You need a consistent drumbeat of messages to your audiences over a period of time to even start to get their attention. Sometime it's weeks, sometimes it's months. But don't give up. Sometimes it takes a 2 x 4 to get customer's attention - and that means hitting them over the head with your message until they pay attention and do something about it.
